Life’s Blessings Come Full Circle
Parents are one of life’s greatest blessings. From birth your parents nurtured you, cared for you and provided for your every need. They instilled in you morals and values and helped mold you into the person you are today. Throughout your lifetime they loved you unconditionally and you knew that, no matter what, they would be there for you.
In life, this pattern of love and devotion often turns full circle. Your parents could one day turn to you in need of the same care they once so freely provided to you. They might need your help with housekeeping chores and preparing meals or more time consuming activities like bathing, transportation, companionship and more.
It can be challenging in this day and age to be thrust into the role of “caregiver,” especially in addition to working full or part-time, caring for your children and juggling the events of your daily life. But, as our society continues to age, many like you are asked to provide assistance in numerous ways. The love you have shared through the years is the bond that makes it possible.
Remember that you are not alone. Be open to turning to others for assistance with your caregiving responsibilities. You will be pleasantly surprised to discover how willing others are to lend a hand, whether that help is from family members and friends to neighbors or members of your faith community. In addition to this existing network, a variety of helpful community resources are also available to help enhance the quality of life for your aging loved one.
